Kathy is an artist who is the most comfortable with mark making tools, water based media and studio work. Drawing is a strong component of her work and she frequently adds drawn marks on top of a painting.
She has been the artist for Groundwork Organics farm for the past 3 years, making postcard illustrations of their beautiful produce.
She has an observant and analytical personality that is used to looking, listening, reading, and sitting with an idea as part of the process to produce her work. She frequently works in a series over a long period of time to explore a theme more deeply.
Her current work focuses on the human subject but she frequently takes a break from that demanding and exacting work to paint something that just pleases her eye. This is often a floral or still life from her home that serves as a quiet resting place for the eye.
Kathy raised 4 children and practiced as a nurse practitioner psychotherapist for more than 30 years. Art making was only a minor part of her life during that time but she studied with various teachers at Lane Community College and the U of O to learn the techniques of the serious artist and art became the primary focus of her life as she moved toward retirement.
She was juried into the Watercolor Society of Oregon in 1997 and has been included and awarded in many exhibits. She achieved signature status from the prestigious National Watercolor Society as well as the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies.
